On October 20, 1944, two liquid gas tanks explode in Cleveland, Ohio, killing 130 people. It took all of the city’s firefighters to bring the industrial fire under control. The explosion took place at the East Ohio Gas Company where a tank with highly flammable gas caught fire. Soon a smaller tank also exploded. Ten thousand people were evacuated, and the explosion destroyed two entire factories, 79 homes in the surrounding area and more than 200 vehicles.
