On September 1, 1985, the wreck of the Titanic was found. A joint U.S.-French expedition had been searching the Atlantic. It was finally located about 400 miles east of Newfoundland. The expedition used an unmanned submersible for the search. In the early morning of September 1, Argo unexpectedly passed over one of the Titanic‘s massive boilers. The wreck was subsequently explored by manned and unmanned submersibles. This shed new light on the details of its 1912 sinking.
