In World War II, the dogs were brought home and re-trained to be family members. In Vietnam they were left behind. This angered many, and there was eventually a law that stipulates dogs must go back to their home bases (but this could be Iraq or Germany). Many people would like to see this revised to help pay for them to come back to America (many trainers would take their dogs if they could), and they also believe that dogs should receive lifetime medical care for their service.
