Wow...thanks for posting. That's an amazing story and certainly tells a lot about the loyalty of dogs.

My Working line German Shepherd was already middle aged when I brought an elderly friend with dementia to live with me as she was being abused in her nursing home. My German Shepherd decided she needed his services so stuck closely to her 24/7. One night at 3 am I heard a crash. My dog could heard through a closed door she was having a medical emergency and tried to break down the door. I was able to call an ambulance and they saved her life. Had I not found her until morning she likely would have died. They both died within a month of each other and I believe they are together in Heaven.

Actually, the dog buried in France was just named after Rin Tin Tin. According to Lee Duncan's daughter, to her knowledge he never moved Rin Tin Tin from the burial spot on Club View Drive. So whoever owns the house at that location today may unknowingly be the guardian of his burial location. If someone could get into that location with a ground detector they could probably confirm whether or not Duncan's daughter is right. After all, if the dog in France is not Rin Tin Tin then the Club View Drive location is probably where he rests.

Thank you for sharing your story! Dogs can be very protective of their families, but Lance sounds so sensitive to you kids and your mom....what a great memory.

In the mid 1950’s my family was graced with a great grandson of Rin Tin Tin. I was 7 or 8 yrs old. We called him Lance. My dad worked until 11 pm or midnight. Mom was home alone with 3 kids every night. She told me in later years, she never felt afraid. She would put us kids in bed and then start cleaning up from supper. Lance would lay on the floor in the kitchen. When she was done she would finally sit down. Lance would trot down the hall and then come back a few minutes later. She followed him down the hall and watched him go to each bed and check on us. Satisfied that all was well he would join her and lay down at her feet with his head on her feet. If one of us was sick or fretting he would come get her. I have more stories. Lance was very intelligent and was never professionally trained. He was instinctively the protector of our family.
